Amazing. Fun. Memorable.
These are just a short sample of words that describes an incredible
14-day life experience in Europe for the 04 Canada Cowboys.
Despite being strangers to one another two weeks prior to flight
departure in Calgary, the players and parents came together as a close family
as we rode the tour bus through Germany, Austria, Northern Italy, Slovakia and
On the ice, our team posted an overall record of 5 wins, 2 losses
and 2 ties. We captured the gold medal in the Prague Challenge and Bratislava
Series events, and the silver medal in a tournament in Ceske Budejovice, Czech
Republic. Our team adjusted well when they had their first experience to body
contact and European officiating, but grew from this adversity. The 04 Cowboys
showed much Canadian pride and understood they played for the name on the front
of their jerseys, not the one on the back.
Off the ice the players enjoyed the hospitality of their European
counterparts, with many exchanging jerseys following the final in Prague. A
highlight for them on the tour, in general, was the free day at the Vienna
Prader Park, an amusement park with some wicked and fun rides. I regress if I didn't
mention the gelato - European ice cream, that was very good too.
Our parents also enjoyed the hospitality and fellowship with the
European parents, exchanging pins and anything else that had a Canadian logo on
it. The tours of Salzburg and Vienna, Austria, as well as Prague, Czech
Republic gave insight into the amazing history and architecture of some of
Europe's oldest cities. The river tour of Prague and the fine European shopping
topped many highlight lists.
The time went by quickly, yet lasting memories of a great
