Top Guns Hockey Development
The Top Guns Hockey Development Organization originated over 10 years ago.
Currently, we are building our own twin arena (to be phased into a Quad in the near future) on Glenmore Trail SE and 84th Avenue. We are pleased to announce that the clearing of the land has been finalized and are moving fast to complete the project by January of 2011.
1. To allow the elite player to develop his talents, by providing an opportunity to play with and against the top players in their age category in Canada and United States.
2. To focus on team development as well as individual growth and character enrichment both on and off the ice.
3. To develop progressive leadership within our organization, so our mission is successful and carried on long into the future.
The Top Guns Hockey Association (Top Guns as it is commonly known) is an Alberta organization dedicated to the promotion of summer hockey for girls and boys from 'Tykes through to Bantam'. The Teams attend various tournaments throughout North America and 'The success of the Top Guns Program' in the past, will continue in the future, because of the dedicated and experienced coaches that have spent countless hours scouting, preparing and training these exceptional young players! We are extremely proud that these players and coaches have the opportunity to represent and participate in outstanding tournaments in Canada and Europe under the banner of the Top Guns AAA Hockey!
The Top Guns look forward to many more years of fulfillment for its players, coaches and parents!
Our AAA Program is built around the principles of learning, competition and fun within a structured environment.
Each player invited to our program is pre-scouted to ensure that they are an accelerated caliber player. The focus is on the development of a well balanced team made up of talented, disciplined and dedicated hockey players that will be capable of competing at the AAA level. This is a unique opportunity for players residing in different locations in and around Alberta the opportunity to meet and play with other players who have what it takes to play at this AAA level. Players of this talent are somewhat weakened by not being able to play to their potential on their winter teams and this opportunity provides the direct exposure to play and be with some of the top players around!
Our program aims to make the experience a positive one for the player, their family and the team. The advancement of hockey skills also includes the development of character, of which Top Guns places a high value on the development of positive life skills that will be valuable to each player in their growth as a person.
Also, Top Guns has the resources to assist players in making informed decisions on their athletic and educational opportunities. This is something a player needs to know and understand as he / she strives to play at the higher levels after minor hockey!
In the fall of 2004, the Top Guns program held meetings to discuss the building of a successful program. Information brought forward on behalf of the coaches and Executive has now started to take place, keeping with the development of skills being a high priority.
One of the ideas brought forward is the inclusion of a number of teams within a division so that Minor and Major teams are possible. This enables more players to continue within our Organization and develop their skills and abilities, as well as their self confidence.
Another idea in the works is that of a Power Skating clinic for Atom through to Peewee players, both male and female. Unfortunately it was not able to be implemented for this season, but hopefully this session will be able to be started shortly. Specialized clinics are also being considered so that players have that opportunity to 'tweak' their skills and become better players.
The Top Guns program is committed to providing the BEST opportunity for development of today's hockey players!
The Top Guns Program hosts and supports teams and development in approximately 7 different minor hockey divisions (Minor & Major), which includes at the present a total of 8 teams participating. Each team is independently run by the staff of the team, which is usually comprised of and is supported by non-parent coaches, with direct accountability to the Top Guns Executive.
Administrative duties for the team are usually filtered through a parent manager who will work closely with the staff. Accountability is a must and budgets are compiled and distributed to all parents so that they have an idea and say in what is planned and spent on each team.
